    Description
    This noncredit course is designed for multilingual students at the beginning to high-beginning level. The course introduces the foundations of academic English reading skills to help students understand ideas of beginning to high-beginning adapted readings while expanding their vocabulary. Students will develop their vocabulary skills and will learn to identify parts of speech and use English-English dictionaries. Students will also learn the basics of academic writing, starting with sentence-level grammar--including the formation of simple and compound sentences--and moving to the composition of paragraphs. The course will also emphasize study skills, use of campus resources, and the norms of the American college classroom.
