    Description
    This course surveys early world literature from antiquity through the mid-seventeenth century. The course studies the development of major early literary genres and forms in relation to broader historical, political, aesthetic, and cultural conditions, analyzing and comparing examples from different cultures side by side. The course teaches students to distinguish and interpret elements of literary forms, and to write critically about literature from diverse periods and cultures.
