This course will explore fundamental biological principles as applied to humans. Topics will include evolution: ecology and human impact on the environment; human heredity including genetics and DNA structure and function; major organ systems including structure, function and pathology; human reproduction and development; and the scientific method, including evaluation of scientific, medical and health information in the media and the application of this knowledge to real life decision-making. The laboratory component introduces the scientific method and experimentation, including histology, dissection, data gathering and analysis with instruction in the use of a variety of scientific equipment.
