    Description
This course is an introduction to the diversity of marine organisms, the environments in which they live, and the relationships among species and organisms within their environments. Topics include the scientific method and its utilization in the marine sciences; properties of the marine environment; sustainable use of marine resources; marine ecosystems with a focus on local estuarine and coastal environs; marine ecology; and biological marine organisms, including their diversity and evolutionary adaptations. Laboratory topics include observation and physical or virtual dissection of representative marine organisms, and inquiry-based comparisons of organisms in different phyla and from different habitats.
