Students will analyze fiction and nonfiction through oral traditions, short stories, novels, poetry, plays, and memoirs. The course examines the historical, social, cultural, geographical, economic, and political contexts of Native American literature, analyzing the expression of Native identity, culture, and worldview. The course emphasizes Native American resistance, self-determination, sovereignty, and survival, as shown through various forms of Native American oral traditions and written literature.
