    The course introduces the analysis of systems of observation, deduction, reasoning, belief, and practical action across human culture, past and present. Issues and topics include symbol, myth, and narrative; ritual and altered states of consciousness; specialist practitioners; healing, illness, and death; relations between religion, science, and politics; intercultural encounters; and historical change.
