    Introduces the basic principles of genetics and heredity. Emphasizes current advances in genetics, including stem cell research, cloning, cancer, and genetically modified crops. Presents information on the human genome and many human genes that are important for health. Investigates the social consequences and ethical implications of biotechnology in medicine and agriculture.
