Includes Ethnic Studies themes such as race, dislocation, displacement, nation, home, self-determination, gender, class and sexuality, applying Ethnic Studies theory to critical events, histories, cultures, and intellectual and literary traditions with special focus on the lived experiences, social struggles, and contributions of Native Americans. Also, includes a comprehensive exposure to Native American prose, poetry, oratory, essay and modern fiction and a introduction to the cultural, social, intellectual, and artistic trends of Native American culture and their relationship to contemporary literature. Students analyze and write about the literature and apply critical theory to describe critical events in the histories, cultures, and intellectual and literary traditions, with special focus on the lived experiences, social struggles, and contributions of Native Americans in the United States.
