Students consider both practical and philosophical aspects of death, including a critical analysis of such topics as developmental awareness of death; changes over time in mortality statistics; patient options in dealing with serious illness; funerals and body disposition; moral issues stemming from modern medical technology; suicide prevention; and the beliefs and customs of various world-wide cultures concerning death and the possibility of an afterlife.
