    Description
    This course will cover basic principles of music composition. It is intended for students with a foundational knowledge of music theory and applied skills. Students will study musical works in historical and cultural context; practice thematic creation, modulation, and development; explore principles of melodic harmonization and basic arrangement and progressions. Various compositional styles will be introduced, including classical, jazz, and popular genres. Students will create simple instrumental and vocal compositions, and learn to effectively utilize historical and contemporary musical notation and performance indications to communicate with performers.
