    This course is a chronological survey of the history of the United States, covering the period from the first Indigenous settlements to 1877. This course focuses on major social, intellectual, political, economic, and diplomatic developments. Key topics include settler colonization, chattel slavery, the War of Independence, the experiences of Indigenous Americans, empire-building, abolition, the Civil War, and Reconstruction.
