    Description
This course traces the emergence of earliest states of the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. The cultural achievements linked to state development are traced through a survey of evidence recovered from the archaeological record, including the earliest written texts. Social and cultural antecedents of the earliest states in the Middle East will be explored. Students will be introduced to anthropological theories that seek to model and explain the features and institutions of state-level societies. ART (ART)
