The metabolic action, requirements, and food sources of the nutrients are also studied. Diets for pregnant mothers, children, teenagers, and older adults are covered as well as the nutritional needs throughout the lifespan. Nutritional deficiencies and excesses as well as the recommended nutrient intakes and the role of diet in the development of chronic disease as well as diets for chronic illness and conditions are examined.
