The course will provide an overview of the origin, characteristics, adaptation and contribution of domesticated farm animals to the agriculture industry from a scientific perspective. Topics will include cell biology, animal anatomy, physiology, reproduction, nutrition, health, retail products and by-products as well as behavior and genetics. Current topics include the influence of humans in genetic engineering, trait selection, and productivity as well as animal welfare and industry policy issues.
