The course will focus on the importance of indigenous societies and the population collapse, racial dynamics, the construction of colonial society, and the lasting impacts and cultural complexities of Spanish and Portuguese colonization. In addition, the course will provide students with the tools to interpret primary sources written during the historical period covered.
