Transfers ToCSUDescriptionASAM 2: Contemporary Issues of Asian Americans, offers a review and critical analysis of the multiple movements and struggles of Asian Americans from the Civil Rights Era to present day. ASAM 2 provides students with multiple insights to the many legacies and transformations that the broader Asian American community (including Southeast Asian, East Asian, South Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders) has experienced in the last century and their impact in anti-war movements, labor movements, the ongoing fight for Ethnic Studies, and much more. Furthermore, students will review these historical issues and movements from a variety of intersectional and critical frameworks including but not limited to feminism, transnationalism, abolitionism, and anti-racism as we discuss the effects and cultural notions of gender, race, and sexuality and how those topics of identity have further contextualized the intergenerational issues Asian American communities face. Above all, this course will provide a roadmap of how we can learn and reflect on previous movements so that we may continue to build our own activist framework that promotes social justice for all.
