Topics include the nature and extent of crime, victims and victimization, macro and micro theories of crime causation, crime typologies such as interpersonal violence, political crime and terrorism, property crime, enterprise crime, public order crimes, crimes of the new millennium, and inequalities such as race, class, and gender as related to crime. The goal of this course is to critically examine the social, cultural, political, and economic significance of crime and the criminal justice system in our society.
