Provides an interdisciplinary survey of African American culture and heritage from the 1600s to the present and analyzes the economic, political, social, artistic, and intellectual elements of the African American community. Includes the intersection of class, gender, white supremacy, and liberation while paying particular attention to the significant impact that African Americans have had on American culture as a whole.
