Students will sample a range of literature and literary styles that span from Old English epic poetry to retellings of Arthurian myth to the early form of the English novel, allowing them to analyze the development of various literary styles written in English, including how important historical contexts, cultural shifts, and evolutions intersect with the motivations and passions of authors in each era.
