    Description
    (Prerequisite: Eligibility for college-level composition, ENGL C1000/ ENGL C1000H/ ENGL C1000E/C-ID ENGL 100 or equivalent.) The course develops and refines students' writing, reading, and critical thinking skills as they learn to write clear, powerful, and engaging papers with an authentic voice and style. Students read and discuss a variety of college-level texts, focusing on non-fiction. The course also emphasizes research and argumentation skills, evaluating and documenting sources, and practicing academic integrity. Students write several essays to a variety of audiences, for a total of at least 5,000 words in the semester, including at least one research paper. This course also focuses on integrated grammar and academic vocabulary instruction based on the needs typical of English language learners.
