Transfers ToUC and CSUCal-GETC Area 3ADescription(No prerequisite.) This course covers the Black Social Dances that emerged as major global dance crazes since the beginning of the 20th Century. It examines the progression and change in music which affected subsequent dance styles from the 1900's to the present. Special emphasis is given to the transition from disco to hip hop, revealing the factors that made them both possible. The early pioneers of hip hop are discussed. Break Dancing, B-boys, and G-boys and their place in the expression of this bold phenome are addressed. Major artists of the 80's, 90's, and 2000's are considered, with the underlying fact that this global expression is the latest American subcultural creative jewel.
