    Description
    (No prerequisite.) A critical survey of mass media from a humanities and social science perspective, this course provides an overview of the salient theories, history, and economic and social forces that shape mass media technologies and messages. Students are introduced to the tools of analyzing and interpreting how major media represent social reality in order to better comprehend the socio-cultural consequences and influence of those representations. Designed for Mass Communications majors, general education, career exploration, and consumer understanding of the interactions between mass media and culture.
