    Description
    (Prerequisites: BIOL 110, BIOL 110L, CHEM 131 or higher, completion of Intermediate Algebra or the equivalent or placement based on AB 705 mandates. Advisory: ENGL 150. The Biology and Chemistry prerequisites must have been completed within the past 5 years.). This course, intended for majors, covers the principles and applications of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell structure and function, biological molecules, cell metabolism including photosynthesis and respiration, molecular and cell biology, genetics and molecular evolution, and Biotechnology. It is a lecture/laboratory-based course in which students incorporate lecture concepts into laboratory experiments which they design, carry out, analyze and report. Three lecture and six laboratory hours weekly. BIOL 111A is not a prerequisite for BIOL 111B. Since BIOL 111B has Chemistry 131 prerequisite, students may wish to register for BIOL 111A and CHEM 131 during the same semester. (CSU/UC) AA/AS COM GE Area 5, Cal-GETC Area 5B & 5C
