Transfers ToCSUDescription(No prerequisite.) This course explores human behavior, emphasizing the practical aspects of psychology in everyday life utilizing both psychological theory and research. Topics include personality, stress and coping, self-understanding, communication, interpersonal relationships, gender, sexuality, psychological disorders and their treatment, personality, personal values, and positive psychology. Service Learning combines meaningful service with the community, enhanced academic learning and purposeful civic engagement. Students will have the opportunity to apply course content to a fieldwork placement in a local community service agency. Students identify how their work in the community contributes to the overall society in an effort to create a more globally minded citizenry.The principles and theoretical foundations for service learning will be introduced and reflected back through fieldwork, a research paper based on observational data and theoretical grounding and weekly class meetings. In weekly topical seminars, based on trending/current events, theoretical findings in the behavioral sciences and student placements, students both process their placement experiences and apply theory to practice.
