    (No prerequisite.) An introductory survey of objects, images, and architecture from the Paleolithic era to the Medieval period (prehistory through ca. 1000 CE), addressing the importance of religious, social, and political influences on the art of prehistoric, Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, early Christian, Byzantine and Medieval European cultures. Emphasizes developing and enhancing students' ability to understand works of art in their social and historical contexts. May require field trips to local museums, galleries, or lectures.
