    (No prerequisite. Advisory: Art 170.) This course introduces the use of the potter's wheel in the creation of ceramic vessels. Through the study of historical and contemporary pottery practices from diverse cultures, students are exposed to the fundamentals of vessel design. Techniques include basic clay preparation; wheel throwing and trimming of cups, bowls, vases and lidded containers; handle making; and basic stoneware and soda glazing.
