    Description
    This course will introduce students to theoretical and intervention models involved in the treatment of substance dependencies. Students will explore the effects of substance abuse on the individual, the family unit, workplace, and the community. Topics include counselor characteristics, legal and ethical issues facing substance abuse counselors, pharmacology, substance abuse assessment, issues of diversity and treatment, group counseling, family counseling, codependency and enabling, and modalities of treatment.
