It emphasizes the development of the cultures, social institutions, political forms, and economic structures of this region, including the complex interactions between Native-American, African, and European societies and the significance of international political and economic connections. In addition, special focus will be given to Latin American historical debates on race, identity, ethnicity, racial inequality, ethnocentrism, colorism, and class hierarchies as it relates to present-day obstacles in Latin America and for Latinx people in general.
