Provides an introduction to the basic tools and concepts of economic analysis with an emphasis of applying economic theory to current issues and policy. Course is designed for students who desire an economic perspective without an intensive or technical investigation. Topics include scarcity and decision making, supply and demand, and the effects of fiscal and monetary policy as applied to selected problems such as crime and drug control, pollution, taxation, Social Security, healthcare, poverty and income equality, and international trade.
