Transfers ToCSUDescriptionESL 188 Introduction to sociological and ethnic studies theories, research methodologies, and data sources to explore race and ethnicity in the U.S. through the lived experiences of African Americans, Native Americans, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and Latino/a Americans. Students will draw upon major sociological and ethnic studies concepts to reflect upon and analyze racial and ethnic power relations at all societal levels, including within their own lives. The socio-political-historic formation of race and ethnicity in the U.S. will be used as a framework for understanding everyday instances of social marginalization and privilege as well as large-scale social change with a focus on social justice and equity.
