    Description
This course explores the theory of AC and DC variable speed drives and motion control, including Servo Robotics, Speed, Torque, and Acceleration. Students will learn the functions and controls of DC variable speed drives and their field applications. We will study the fundamentals of solid-state components that make up the speed drive and power control. Students will master the functions and controls of AC variable frequency drives (VFD) as well as wire, and they will connect to and communicate with the Ethernet IP network. Students will have hands-on activities, including basic robotic operation, programming, operating, setting parameters, tuning, and configuration. Students conduct fundamental activities using AC Vector, General-Purpose drives to chart the performance and adjust parameters to change characteristics of the motor performance. Activities include Monitoring Parameter Values using the Human Interface Module (HIM) to perform basic assisted startup routines, configuring skip speed reference parameters, and programming the S-curve acceleration/deceleration. Students will also use Studio 5000 and Connected Components Workbench (CCW) software to control and program drives through an automated PLC networking control system, along with performing basic troubleshooting.
