Transfers ToNot transferableDescriptionRecommendation: READ 101 or equivalent with a grade of "C" or higher or "pass" This introductory course examines foundational literacy development for neurodivergent learners, including students with autism, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, and language-based learning differences. Students explore how reading develops, why some learners experience difficulty, and how inclusive, evidence-informed classroom practices increase access to literacy. Emphasis is placed on core reading components, introductory structured literacy principles, neurodiversity-affirming perspectives, and classroom-based supports in inclusive settings. The course prepares students for careers in special education, inclusive education, and related fields, as well as for employment in educational support roles in early childhood and K–12 settings, including instructional aide and behavioral support positions.
