    Description
    This course provides students with the theory and practical knowledge of the science used in cosmetology. Ensuring use of proper sterilization and following procedures and techniques in protecting the health and safety of the client and technician students will learn the science related to cosmetology; acid and permanent alkaline waving, chemical straightening including the use of sodium hydroxide and other COSM 50C base solutions, use of semi- permanent, demi-permanent and temporary colors, hair analysis, predisposition and strand tests, safety precautions, formula mixing, tinting, bleaching, high and lowlights, and the use of dye removers. In order to meet state requirements for testing, students must have a high school diploma or its equivalent or have completed 10th grade and passed an Ability to Benefit (ATB) and be at least 17 years old. Prerequisite: COSM 50B.
