    Description
    This is the first semester of a one-year survey of biology. It includes a survey of the general principles of cell, molecular and evolutionary biology. Emphasis is on the following topics: chemistry of life, cellular organization, biological membranes, energetics, genetics, evolution and diversity of prokaryotes, Protista, and fungi. Laboratory exercises emphasize the application of these topics, especially to biotechnology. This course along with BIOL 20B is the recommended sequence for STEM majors. It is recommended that students contact the anticipated transfer institution to ascertain specific transfer requirements.
