    Description
This course is a broad survey of the American West and its significance in U.S. history from 1806 to the present day. Attention is focused on the social, cultural, political, and economic developments and changes in the West. Topics stressed include Native Americans, the frontier experience, Gold Rush, race relations, gender, environmental issues, twentieth-century problems, urban and suburban development, and the popular representation of the West as myth and place. This transferable course is designed to further the undergraduate's general education, introduce students to concepts basic to historical inquiry, as well as enhance their understanding of the region in which they live.
