Completion of ENGL 101. This course surveys British literature from the late 18th Century to contemporary British and Postcolonial texts, examining the richly diverse texts produced by an expanding global, linguistic community. A range of texts including poetry, prose, and drama is discussed in relation to cultural movements and periods (Romantic, Victorian, Modernist, and Postmodernist) and historical and political contexts, such as the rise of industrialism and the rise and fall of colonialism. This survey is characterized by critical thinking, close textual reading, and analytical writing. (C-ID: ENGL 165) (UC, CSU AVC) (GE: IGETC Area 3B, CSU Area C2, AVC Area C)
