Students will explore the key historical roots of public speaking, learn and apply foundational rhetorical techniques, and develop critical thinking skills to analyze, organize, and deliver speeches, including informative and persuasive presentations. The course will also emphasize the importance of group dynamics, focusing on small group roles, leadership, norms, decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict management. Through a combination of research, reasoning, and live presentations, students will gain an understanding of how group communication differs from other forms of communication and will be equipped to function effectively in diverse group settings, such as in college, the workplace, and the community.
