    Description
    This is a 40 hour course for first responders assigned full-time or collaterally to a crisis intervention team. This course addresses stigma reduction, cultural relevance and provides perspective of individuals or families who have experience with persons who have mental illness, intellectual disabilities, and substance use disorders. The course provides officers with effective communication tools to encourage conflict resolution and de-escalation. Officers will be trained to identify indicators of mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders. Officers will receive instruction on community and state resources and how these resources can be utilized by law enforcement to serve persons with mental illness and intellectual disabilities.
