Students will encounter the social, economic, and legal institutions which characterized being black in the United States at various periods in the nation's history. Topics include African civilization, slavery, the Diaspora, abolition, reconstruction, segregation, Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights Movement, African Americans in politics, and race in Modern America.
