    Description
    This course provides a critical and historical study of the literary genre of detective fiction. Students will read representative works by such authors as Doyle, Poe, Hammett, Christie, Chandler, Himes, and McDonald. This course will encompass a variety of fiction selections covering an introduction to the popular literary genre and its origins and growth over the last two centuries. Topics may include the conventions of the form, the elements of fiction, critical thinking applied to solving crimes, and the ethical problems raised in the works under discussion.
