    This course provides EMS professionals seeking further education in preparation for the formal paramedicine program with the essential foundational understanding of electrocardiogram (ECG) rhythm analysis and basic 12-lead ECG interpretation, focusing on cardiac anatomy, physiology, electrophysiology, and pathophysiology. Students will develop proficiency in identifying and interpreting common dysrhythmias, including sinus, atrial, junctional, ventricular rhythms, and heart blocks, as well as recognizing ischemia, injury, and infarct on a 12-lead ECG. Emphasis is placed on accurate ECG interpretation, recognition of life-threatening arrhythmias, clinical correlation to patient symptoms, and prehospital treatment strategies. This course aligns with DOT NHTSA National EMS Education Standards (2021), California EMSA guidelines, and Santa Barbara County LEMSA protocols.
